What is a Constellation? Our star system (Galaxy) contains around 100 million stars. Most stars live in groups or clusters. Each group of stars forms a distinctive pattern that will never change; these groups of 'star patterns' are called CONSTELLATIONS. There are 88 constellations in the Galaxy, not all of them are visible to the naked eye, though each has a name and more than half have Ancient Greek Mythological tales attached to them. So, will I be able to see the constellation of stars I have on my ceiling in the real night sky? Yes, but you must remember that not all stars and constellations are visible on every night of the year. As the earth constantly rotates, some stars rise and set just like our Sun and Moon. This means that some constellations e.g. 'Hercules'/'Orion', the Hunter can only be observed at certain times of the year. It is also important to remember that constellations in the Northern Hemisphere cannot be observed from the Southern Hemisphere and vice versa so if you have a Northern Constellation on your ceiling you wouldn't be able to see this if you were in say Brazil or South Africa as these are countries in the Southern Hemisphere. How long will my Shooting Stars ceiling last for? We give our Shooting Star ceiling constellation an average shelf life of five years but all our constellations will usually retain their luminosity for much longer. How long will it glow for each night? Your ceiling will glow in darkness every night for up to 12 hours providing it is 'well charged' daily with either artificial or day light. Are Shooting Star constellations the same thing as stick-on luminous stars or ordinary glow paint? No, our constellations are exact replicas of what you would see in the sky at night so they have much more depth and realism than stick-on stars or glow paint. What's more our constellations don't lose their luminosity and will still be visible if painted over, whereas stick on stars or glow paint will fade just a couple of hours after the lights have been switched off and will disappear if covered with paint. Is your Shooting Star paint safe? Yes, our paint is a non-toxic space glow paint and is completely safe. As with all paints, our Space Glow paint does emit an odour as it is drying but this only lasts for approximately two hours after the constellation has been applied. In the unlikely event that the paint is ingested, we would advise you to seek medical attention as a precautionary measure in the same way you would with any other paint. Does it matter what colour my ceiling is when applying a Shooting Star constellation? No, a Shooting Stars ceiling can be applied to ceilings and walls of any colour, though application is slightly more visible on darker (i.e. black/ brown / dark red / blue / green) walls or ceilings. What happens if I want to decorate? Will I lose my constellation? No, Shooting Star constellations can be painted over once, sometimes twice without losing the effect. After a third coat of paint, your constellation will usually disappear. A fourth coat of paint will definitely ensure that your constellation is covered up. Can I still have a Shooting Star ceiling constellation if my ceiling is artexed / wooden / tiled / wall-papered? Yes. We are able to position exact replicas of the stars onto any surface you require, regardless of its texture or finish. |
